Origin Story

‘I want to make delicious ramen.’
This is the numer one passion of Sapporo Iciban.
In search of the perfect flavor, Takeshi Ida, the founder of Sapporo Ichiban traveled all over Japan tasting ramen. On one momentous day, he discovered the finest ramen in Sapporo’s Ramen Alley which became the basis for Sapporo Ichiban’s “Original Flavor”.
- High Standard of Flavor
-
Over the next 3 years, 2 more flavors were created along with our Original Ramen and have remained our company standards ever since. These are our Miso and Shio Ramen. These incredible and unique flavors came straight from Mr. Ida’s heart. It was always his dream to create an instant ramen for people to enjoy with all the flavor of a soup that took hours to make. Since then, these have become increasingly popular and a standard of Japanese cuisine.
- Our Success is in Our Base
-
No one wants to eat the same thing every night. One of the secrets behind the success of Sapporo Ichiban Ramen is that our unique yet versatile soup and noodle combinations work well with many other ingredients. While delicious on its own, people can expand the flavors of our ramen by adding their favorite ingredients such as vegetables, meat or tofu.
- Meals for the Whole Family
-
Our company is passionate about creating soups that will bring families together at mealtime. To this end, we work hard to provide a consistent flavor that your family can rely on. We want everyone to know what they are getting when they purchase Sapporo Iciban; a flavorful soup that is amazing on its own or mixed in with your favorite ingredients.
The story of 3 flavors

- Soup
-
We combine chicken stock, garlic & flavorful vegetables to make this soup. The roasted soy sauce adds a deep savory flavor to its tasty broth.
- Noodles
-
Our noodles are kneaded with soy sauce which adds an umami taste that compliments the soup. The cross-cut of the noodles makes them easy to eat.
- History

It all Started with a bowl of ramen.
The first president of Sanyo Foods, Takeshi Ida, traveled around Japan eating ramen in search of the perfect bowl. He became obsessed with a soy sauce soup in Ramen Alley in Sapporo. The original Soy Sauce Flavor Sapporo Ichiban was born out of this obsession.
After discoving his beloved ramen in Sapporo, Ida sampled the soup every day in order to recreate the taste. While Ida got close to creating a replica, he felt something was missing and remained unsatisfied.
Finally, Ida discovered the missing taste that eventually would catapult his ramen to best-seller status. Seeing Ida visit his Ramen Alley shop almost daily in search of the missing ingredient, the sympathetic owner finally gave in and revealed the hidden element. It wasn’t the proportions or the seasoning that was off, rather there was one aromatic vegitable that would make all the difference. Once he discovered the missing link, the Original Flavor of Sapporo Ichiban was born and soon became a hit.
